From game-changing medical research and new health initiatives to education and disaster recovery efforts, our community partners have made great strides during the past 12 months.

We’re looking back at how we’ve supported our partners and their incredible achievements.

July

In July, we were honoured to make a $600,000 donation to Children’s Cancer Institute’s Zero Childhood Cancer. Zero Childhood Cancer offers Australia’s first-ever personalised medicine program for children with high-risk or relapsed cancer.

So far, the results have been incredibly encouraging for sick children and their families. The donation included funds from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money. 

August

In partnership with Channel Nine’s TODAY show, in August, we surprised some notable community champions with $15,000 each, recognising their random acts of kindness.

September

We continued our long-held commitment to Starlight Children’s Foundation with a $250,000 donation from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money to fund 38 Starlight’s Wishes.

A Starlight Wish is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a sick child and their family. It gives them hope and an opportunity to forget about treatments and surgeries for a moment.

We also continued to support Victorian charity My Room with a $100,000 donation to their annual The Footy Show Grand Final Eve: My Room Telethon, which raised vital funds to support children and their families on their cancer journey.

October

October was one of the biggest months for us in 2021.

The Childhood Cancer Association’s critical work was supported with a $50,000 donation. The donation will fund more than 800 nights of accommodation for country and interstate families while their child is undergoing treatment at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.

Later that month, we announced a $50,000 donation to Variety SA. The donation will go towards a Variety Sunshine Coach, transporting kids to schools and facilities catering to children with physical disabilities and/or regional or social disadvantages.

Thanks to an earlier donation of $300,000, The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was again able to hold Day for Daniel - Australia’s biggest child safety education and awareness day.

We know it’s cool to be kind, so we also donated $50,000 to The Kindness Factory, an organisation dedicated to promoting positive difference where people log their random acts of kindness.

The money will support the organisation’s education programs in schools and universities. It will inspire people everywhere to stay connected, know when to reach out for help, exercise resilience, and treat themselves, each other, and the planet with dignity and respect.

Very Special Kids is integral in caring for Victorian children with life-threatening conditions by providing a children’s hospice and professional family support services. We were thrilled to make a $100,000 donation to contribute to their ongoing work.

December

Brisbane CBD was lit up by The Lott by Golden Casket City Hall Lights during the festive season. This annual event transforms the CBD into a dazzling visual and audio display for Christmas.

January

In 2022 we set our sights on making things bigger and better. We planned to support over 15 charities and their important work in 2022, and it’s all thanks to you. By playing your favourite lottery games, you’re making these contributions to the Australian community possible. 

February

The Lott continued its support of Mindil Beach Sunset Markets. The markets are the showpiece of Thursday and Sunday nights in Darwin, with locals referring to it as ‘the best place in Australia to watch the sunset’.  

March

Starlight Children’s Foundation’s Healthier Futures initiative is about breaking down the fear and uncertainty that can prevent children from taking part in vital health checks. We donated $100,000 from Tatts NT unclaimed prize money so Captain Starlight and the team could visit remote Australian communities facing extra challenges accessing healthcare. 

To support flood relief efforts in Queensland and New South Wales, we made a $500,000 donation – including $250,000 from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money – to Australia Unites: Red Cross Flood Appeal. 

The Lott committed another year of support for the Stars Foundation with a $100,000 donation to continue vital work empowering young Indigenous women in the Northern Territory. 

That same month we committed to being the naming rights partner of the Tatts Finke Desert Race for another two years. The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an iconic motorsport event that we’ve been a part of for twenty-three years. 

April 

In April, we returned as a broadcast partner for the Nine Telethon in support of The Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Telethon helps the Foundation support sick kids by funding life-saving medical research, purchasing cutting-edge medical equipment, and providing vital patient and family support services at Queensland Children’s Hospital and paediatric facilities across the state.

May 

A $500,000 donation to Mater Foundation funded new research to better identify babies at risk of stillbirth, brain damage and cerebral palsy from oxygen deprivation during late pregnancy and childbirth.

June

To round out the financial year, we were honoured to support two of The University of Queensland’s research projects with a $500,000 donation funded from Golden Casket’s unclaimed prizemoney.

The first project being funded this year will continue research into using molecular clamp technology to supercharge vaccine production. The second funded project aims to create an effective treatment for chronic disease.
