About The Pools

On Saturday 23 June 2018, The Pools was withdrawn from the Australian Lottery Market.

The Pools was Australia's only lottery based on the outcome of soccer matches played across Europe and Australia.

The 6 highest scoring drawn soccer matches determined the 6 winning numbers, with the 7th highest drawn match determining the supplementary number.

The Pools offered a Division 1 prize pool starting at an estimated $60,000. To win the Division 1 prize, players needed to match all 6 winning numbers within a single game. If there were no Division 1 prize winners, the prize pool jackpotted to the next draw.

The Pools draw closed every Saturday at 2:30pm AEST during the Australian Soccer season, and at 7:30pm AEST during the European Soccer season. The winning numbers and prize dividends were available the following Monday.

How to win The Pools?

To win The Pools you didn't need to be a soccer expert! The Pools offered a Division 1 prize pool starting at an estimated $60,000 and jackpotted to over $1 Million! Winning numbers were determined by the highest scoring drawn soccer matches.

In total there were 5 prize divisions. You could win a prize with as little as 3 winning numbers plus 1 supplementary number in a game. To win The Pools top prize, you needed to match all 6 winning numbers from the 6 highest scoring drawn soccer matches. If there were no Division 1 prize winners, the prize pool jackpoted to the next draw.

Match results were ranked as follows:

  • Ranking 1 – Drawn matches (with goals scored)
  • Ranking 2 – Nil-all draws
  • Ranking 3 – Away side wins
  • Ranking 4 – Home side wins

If 2 or more matches were ranked equally, the match with the higher Match List number ranked higher.

How to play The Pools?

1. The first step to playing The Pools was deciding if you want to play a QuickPick or a Marked Entry.

  • QuickPick is the easiest way to play, where the number of games you play is fixed and your numbers are randomly generated for you.
  • Marked entry lets you choose how many games you would like to play, plus you can select the numbers that are meaningful to you, and even save them as a Favourite for next time. You can play up to 18 games by marking a coupon in-store, or up to 50 games when creating your own entry online.

2. Once you decided which way to play, you could add more to your entry in The Pools for more chances to win!

  • A System entry allowed you to pick more numbers from the set of 38. You could pick from 7 to 20 numbers, giving you more chances to win multiple prize divisions. Learn more about System entries for other games.
  • A Pick entry guaranteed you either 1 or 2 winning numbers. Learn more about Pick entries for other games.

3. You could also choose how long you wanted to play for.

  • If you where planning a holiday or not able to make it to your local store, you could purchase an entry into an Advance draw, or play your entry across multiple draws with a Multi-Week entry.
  • If you play online you could subscribe to automatically play into every draw or when The Pools jackpot reached a certain amount.
