A young Toowoomba couple has declared 2018 is going to be their year after they happily revealed one of the top prizes of $10,000 on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its while they were enjoying their beachside holiday.
 
The couple, in their 20s, purchased their winning ticket at Surfside News, 10 North Street, Worrim.
 
“We were just on holidays and I was thinking that as it was the beginning of the year I might get some scratchies,” the winning woman explained to a Golden Casket official when claiming her prize.
 
“We went home with them and I gave some to my partner to scratch and he said ‘can you read this?’. I looked at it and thought ‘no way!’.
 

“I was pretty excited.  This doesn’t happen to people like us.  It’s going to be a good year now!”

The couple plan to use their Instant windfall to upgrade their car.
 
Surfside News owner Sandra Mitchell said the outlet was still celebrating one of its customers scoring a top-prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
 
“It’s pretty exciting for the store and for the couple!  It’s a nice bonus and what a great way to start 2018!” she exclaimed.
 
“We’ve been here since 2010 and this is the first top-prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket we’ve sold that we know of.  Hopefully many more to come for our customers!”
 
Last financial year, there were 144 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $12 million.
