A Sydney father has promised to honour a deal he made with his adult son, after unexpectedly discovering a Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot entry they purchased together won the guaranteed 1st Prize in a recent draw.

The New South Wales duo won the guaranteed 1st Prize of $200,000 in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1201, drawn Monday 21 January 2019. Their entry also won a consolation prize of $1,000, boosting their total win to $201,000.

When the winner spoke with us this afternoon to confirm his win, the father revealed the disbelief he felt when their ticket was first scanned.

“The newsagent put the ticket through the machine and it came up as a winning ticket,” he explained.

“I really couldn’t believe that an entry my son and I had bought together won!

“I suppose I’ll have to pay up now.”

The winner said he was visiting his son in Griffith when they decided to try their luck in Lucky Lotteries and purchase an entry together.

“I’ve been playing Lucky Lotteries for decades and have never won anything like this,” he said.

“When Lotto first started we won $500. That was a lot of money back then.

“I can’t wait until my son gets home from work this afternoon so I can break the news. It will be a great surprise.

“I’m in too much shock to think of how we’ll use the money.

“But it’s come at a great time, I’ve been hanging out for a holiday.”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry of two consecutive numbers at Griffin Plaza Newsagency, Shop 6, Griffin Plaza, Corner of Yambil Street and Crossing Street, Griffith.

Griffin Plaza Newsagency owner Manjit Lally said the win was great news for the community.

“Everyone here is so excited to hear we’ve sold another 1st Prize winning entry. It’s been about 18 months since the last major win in store,” he said.

“We are so happy for our customer and wish them all the best!”
