Play For Purpose is a not-for-profit raffle helping hundreds of great Australian causes supercharge their fundraising. As part of its support of community organisations, The Lott provides resources and financial support to every Play For Purpose raffle.

From cats and dogs to mice and horses — the RSPCA cares for more than 52,000 animals every year.

But did you know their work is almost entirely funded by community generosity?

We caught up with RSPCA Qld Individual Giving Manager Sonya Tufnell who explained how passionate Aussies across the country help the society rescue, rehome, and rehabilitate animals.

“We require almost $50 million annually to be able to support our animal centres, programs and services,” she said.

“What a lot of people don’t know is that we receive less than 4% of funding from the government, which means we rely heavily on donations, bequests, fundraising and sponsorships.

“In fact, the generosity of the community funds 96% of what we do.”

For anyone with a soft spot for all creatures great and small, this means you too can have a positive impact.

RSPCA Qld has partnered with Play For Purpose to give animal lovers a fun and easy way to support their work.

Play For Purpose is Australia’s 100% not-for-profit community raffle where you can win great prizes all while making a difference for important causes.

Tickets are just $10, with a guaranteed minimum of $5 directly supporting your chosen charity. There’s a top prize worth $250,000 up for grabs and hundreds of other chances to win.

“Play for Purpose has given us another opportunity to fundraise so that we can care for the animals that have been abused, injured, abandoned, surrendered, neglected or lost,” Sonya said.

“Recently we received a call about some abandoned kittens caught between the rafters of a suburban home. As swiftly as we could, we sent out the RSPCA Ambulance team to retrieve them.

“After a gruelling two and a half hours, with the help of the Fire Department, we were able to pull all of the kittens to safety.

“These kittens were then transported back to the Domestic Animal Hospital, where the RSPCA Queensland Veterinary Team nurtured and cared for the kittens until they recovered.

“Because of the generosity of Australians, we can continue to do what we do best and save the lives of animals that need it, like these kittens.”
