How to play Powerball

Each Thursday after 7:30pm AEST, Powerball is drawn from 2 barrels. 7 numbers are drawn from the main barrel (numbered from 1 to 35) and 1 Powerball number is drawn from the Powerball barrel (numbered from 1 to 20).

To win Division 1 you need to select all 7 winning numbers plus the Powerball in a single game panel. You can win a prize with as little as 2 winning numbers and the Powerball number.

Steps to create an entry

You can play a Powerball entry online, via The Lott app or in-store. Follow the steps below to learn more.

1. Go to the Powerball Play page and choose how you want to play:

Playing a QuickPick is the easiest way to play, where the number of games you play is fixed and your numbers are randomly generated. Other ways to play include playing a marked entry or a variety of Pick or System entries. See Ways to Play for the complete guide.

2. Choose your numbers:

For a standard marked entry, choose 7 numbers from 1 to 35 or use the autofill option.

3. Choose 1 Powerball number:

Choose a Powerball number from 1 to 20 in a single game panel. If you are playing a PowerHit entry you do not need to select a Powerball number as you are guaranteed the Powerball!

4. Purchase your entry:

Add the entry to your cart, complete the checkout process and you are done.

5. Playing in-store?

Ask your retailer for a Powerball Quickpick or select your own numbers on a marked coupon. Your friendly retailer can help you with all the different entry types available in-store.

1. Standard entries

You can choose to play a QuickPick or a Marked entry.

A QuickPick is the easiest way to play, where the number of games you play is fixed and your numbers are randomly generated for you.

A Marked entry lets you choose how many games you would like to play, plus you can select the numbers that are meaningful to you, and even save them as a Favourite for next time. You can play up to 18 games by marking a coupon in-store, or up to 50 games when creating your own entry online.

2. PowerHit entry

A PowerHit entry guarantees you the winning Powerball number.

3. System & Pick entries

System and Pick entries give you more chances to win, plus the chance to win across multiple prize divisions.

A System entry gives you the option to play more than the standard 7 numbers from the first barrel of 35. You can choose from 8 to 20 numbers giving you more chances to win, plus the chance to win across multiple prize divisions. Learn more about System entries.

A PowerHit System entry which not only guarantees the Powerball, but allows you to pick from 8 to 15 numbers from the main barrel.

Pick entry guarantees you either 1 or 2 winning numbers. Having a guaranteed winning number gives you more chances to win, plus the chance to win across multiple prize divisions. Learn more about Pick entries.

A PowerHit Pick 5 or PowerHit Pick 6 entry which guarantees the Powerball, and also 1 or 2 winning numbers from the main barrel.

4. Advance Entries

Once you’ve selected your Powerball entry type, you can choose the draws and number of weeks you'd like to play. If you're planning a holiday or don’t have time to buy a ticket online or in-store you can plan ahead and schedule your entry with an Advance entry, Multi-week entry or set-up a Subscription.

  • An Advance entry allows you to play your favourite game in a future draw, up to 10 weeks in advance. Learn more about Advance entries.
  • Multi-week entry lets you play your entry across multiple draws. You can choose to play up to 10 consecutive Powerball draws. Learn more about Multi-week entries.
