Heart of gold! Generous Daylesford woman to help favourite causes with $60 million Powerball prize
A generous Daylesford woman has scored the entire $60 million jackpot in tonight’s Powerball draw and declared her good fortune will extend further to benefit a number of charities close to her heart.
The victorious Victorian held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1429, drawn Thursday 5 October 2023. The $60 million prize is the second-biggest lottery win so far in 2023.
While she evaded initial attempts by lottery officials to deliver the winning news, the stunned winner soon realised she was now a multi-millionaire after quickly checking her ticket online.
“I’ve won $60 million!” she happily cried.
“I don’t know what to say! I never thought I’d get this call.
“I’m in a bit of shock at the moment. Oh my god! I can’t believe this is happening.
“My husband is walking around dumbfounded. He accidentally hung up on you in a frenzy.
“I’m just looking at these numbers and they all mean something. They’re all special to me. Those numbers are family and friends' birthdays that I always play.”
While still coming to terms with the shock of scoring $60 million, the recently retired winner revealed she already knew how she’d use some of her prize.
“I think a lot of charities might benefit – especially those that help disadvantaged children,” she declared.
“This prize will help a lot of people out.
“It’s my main goal.”
Her winning marked 18-game entry was purchased online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.
In addition to the division one winner, there were 2,004,162 wins across divisions two to nine in tonight’s draw worth more than $39.1 million. This includes seven division two winners who each pocketed $155,630.30.
So far this year, 13 Powerball division one winning entries have collectively scored more than $454 million. Six of these wins have been in New South Wales, three in Victoria, two in South Australia and one each in Queensland and Western Australia.
