“I’ve got butterflies in my stomach!”: Sleepless night for Huntfield Heights woman after $4.6 million Powerball discovery
A Huntfield Heights woman is happily bolstering her retirement plans, including a trip on The Ghan, after scoring more than $4.6 million in last night’s Powerball draw.
The Adelaide resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1399, drawn Thursday 9 March 2023. Her total prize was $4,624,993.78.
“Oh my god! That’s all I’ve been saying all night!” the winning exclaimed when we spoke to her this morning.
“I haven’t slept all night. I’ve been that excited.
“I’ve been playing these numbers for years. They’re sort of special. I just picked them and stuck with them.
“I looked at the tele last night and thought, ‘they’re some of my numbers’. So I started marking them off. I thought, ‘oh, I’ve got six numbers and the Powerball’. But then I checked again and realised I had them all.
“I thought six numbers and the Powerball was good enough. But then I saw there was only one division one winner, and that winner was me! Oh my god. Oh my god!
“I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking you were going to tell me there was something wrong with my ticket, but it’s real.
“I’ve got butterflies in my stomach. Oh, wow!”
When asked how she might enjoy life as a multi-millionaire, the South Australian shared she couldn’t wait to look after her family.
“I’ve always said if I ever won the lottery, I’d buy my son a house, and now I will,” she said.
“I’ll also be able to do a few things I never thought I’d be able to do, like go on The Ghan.”
Her winning marked 18-game entry was purchased at Hackham Licensed Post Office & Newsagency, Shop 2, 77A Collins Parade, Hackham.
Hackham Licensed Post Office & Newsagency owner Steve Marks said he was thrilled to have sold his first division one winning entry.
“I’ve been selling lotteries for almost two decades, and this is my first division one win! Wow!” he said.
“This is brilliant news! We’ve always been trying to achieve it and now we have! We’re ready for the next one now.
“I’ve put signs up everywhere to spread the good news.
“I want to wish our winner all the best with their prize! Congratulations!”
