An Oxenford man who took home the entire $20 million jackpot in tonight’s Powerball is thanking his last-minute decision to grab an entry into the draw.

The Queenslander held the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1407, drawn 4 May 2023.

In addition to winning the division one prize of $20,053,292.21, his System 8 PowerHit QuickPick entry also scored division two 19 times, division three 7 times and division four 133 times, bolstering his total windfall to $20,495,362.76.

“Wow! That is totally unbelievable!” the man exclaimed when we spoke to him immediately after the draw.

“I’ve always wanted a call like this!

“To be honest, I thought it was someone from work calling me with a problem. It’s not a problem at all!

“To be honest, I tend not to play Powerball every week, but as soon as the jackpot is over $20 million, I’ll get an entry. I’ve just always thought $20 million was a nice number and now I know it is a very nice number.

“I normally buy an entry at the shops, but I didn’t get the chance today as I left it quite late. It was after 5pm and I almost didn’t grab a ticket at all. I’m glad I did!

“The best win I’ve ever had is $100 and I was pretty chuffed with that. This is something else.

“I still can’t believe it!

“I was literally walking into the bedroom to go to bed when you called.”

When asked how his life might change with $20 million in his bank account, the winning Queenslander admitted his working days might be numbered.

“I’d like to retire earlier than planned, and I’d like to set the kids up with a house,” he shared.

“Twenty million dollars! That’s a lot of money. I don’t think I’ll even believe it’s real when it’s in my bank account.

“I just want to wake up in the morning and make sure it’s not a dream.”

His winning System 8 PowerHit QuickPick entry was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
