From green to gold: Botany gardener discovers $1.2 million Saturday Lotto win while watering the plants
A peaceful gardening session grew into a moment of pure joy and disbelief yesterday for a Botany man who discovered he was now a millionaire from the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.
The Sydney man held one of the four division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Lotto draw 4527 on Saturday 7 December 2024. Each division one winning entry pocketed $1,258,663.69.
In addition to winning division one, the man’s System 9 entry also scored division three 18 times, division four 45 times and division six 20 times, bolstering his total prize to $1,271,613.09.
The winner was oblivious to his good fortune until we reached out yesterday morning.
“How good is that!” he exclaimed when the enormity of his win was revealed.
“Wow! Excellent! Just excellent – that’s the best word I can use.
“I was just out watering the plants. I had no idea.
“I play the same numbers each week – they’re my lucky numbers, but I can’t even think why I picked them all those years ago.
“You know what – I always thought I would win, if that makes sense.
“I just always thought I would, so that’s why I kept playing the same numbers.”
When asked how $1.2 million might transform his Christmas and New Year plans, the Sydneysider shared he would need some time to digest the news before making any firm decisions.
“Needless to say, it won’t go astray!” he laughed.
“It means a great Christmas and 2025 for my family.”
The man’s winning marked System 9 entry was purchased on The Lott website – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
