A Broadmeadows couple who joked about winning the lottery had the shock of a lifetime after their banter became a reality when they scored $2.5 million in the weekend’s TattsLotto draw.

The cheery pair were one of the eight division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 4499, drawn on Saturday 31 August 2024. Each division one entry won $2,500,000.00.

The winning duo revealed they usually stick to 10 games but added two extra this time, only to be left gobsmacked when it was their 12th game that scored them division one.

“On Sunday afternoon, my partner and I were saying we need a bigger place, then I joked and said, ‘Let me check my TattsLotto tickets!’” the winning man said.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes. I asked my partner, ‘Can you count how many zeros there are?’. I didn’t know if I was reading it right.

“We called her parents right away. We were so excited that they thought we were going to say we were having a baby or getting married.

“I usually pick my numbers but when I bought my ticket, I asked my partner to help me choose.

“I normally do 10 games but because we were playing together, I decided to go for 12 this time, and on the 12th line we won!

“Although we’ve been fantasising about what we’ll do, we wanted to have it confirmed first.

“We’re thinking a holiday and investing but before any decisions, we’re going have a good think about it.

“Thankfully, I have the day off work today!”
