Since 2020, DV Safe Phone has gifted more than 10,000 safe phones into the hands of domestic violence victims across Australia – empowering them to live a safer, connected life.

One phone costs the not-for-profit $75 to restore, repair and send out to a wide network of agency partners (hospitals, police stations, safe houses). From there, the phones provide victims of domestic violence a tool to enable them to create a new chapter in their lives and give them hope.

The Lott is proud to support DV Safe Phone with a donation of $50,000 to allow the charity to continue its mission to empower Australian domestic violence victims through life-changing technology and reduce e-waste in landfills.

This funding equates to 670 phones, which will support 670 victims in escaping domestic violence.

DV Safe Phone founder and CEO Ashton Wood said the donation means more calls for help will be heard.

“At DV Safe Phone we collect, repurpose and gift mobile phones to victims of domestic violence," he said.

"These 'Safe Phones' provide a lifeline to call for help when it is needed most.

"Our goal is to get a safe phone into the hands of every victim of domestic violence who needs one. With over 2 million known victims of domestic violence, there is no doubt we have a goliath challenge on our hands."

The Lott Partnerships Manager Liz McPherson said that the partnership with DV Safe Phone is another way Australia’s official lotteries is committed to helping our communities.

“We are so proud to make such an important donation to DV Safe Phone to continue their efforts in delivering the crucial tool, a phone, to victims to empower them to take that first step in being safe”

DV Safe Phone have over 850 phone collection partners for members of the public to donate their old phones. If you want to find out where you can drop your old phone, head to DVSafePhone.org.
