To mark the Queensland Children’s Hospital’s 10th birthday, today, The Lott by Golden Casket has delivered the perfect gift – a cheque for $1.5 million to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Our donation will support world-leading research at the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre and provide sick Queensland kids with programs to help with their recovery and health outcomes – fuelling the next decade of world-class care.

For more than a century, Australia’s official lotteries have supported initiatives that advance the health and well-being of sick children and their families across the country.

In 2007, it was proceeds from the sale of Golden Casket to Tattersall’s Limited that provided the initial funding to help build Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.

The Lott Chief Customer & Marketing Officer Andrew Shepherd said the latest support of important health initiatives continued a century-long commitment.

“Making a positive impact in our communities is entrenched in our DNA, at The Lott by Golden Casket,” he said.

“We are incredibly proud that our origins are so deeply rooted in the world-class care that critically sick and injured children receive at Queensland Children’s Hospital each day.”

The Lott by Golden Casket’s donation consists of $1 million from state lottery taxes to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s work providing care and assistance to sick kids and their families, and $500,000 from unclaimed prize money, which will be allocated to the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre.

In 2019, our donation of $500,000 from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money launched the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre, Australia’s first research initiative solely focused on paediatric brain cancer, treatment, and survivorship. In the past six years alone, we have contributed $3 million to the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre.

The Children’s Brain Cancer Centre unites the brightest minds in paediatric brain cancer research from across the country. The Centre is focused on groundbreaking projects aimed at detecting, monitoring, and ultimately halting the growth of brain tumours in children. Through its collaborative approach and innovative research, the Centre is working to improve outcomes for young patients.

Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Lyndsey Rice said she was grateful for The Lott by Golden Casket’s support of the Foundation to help mark the Queensland Children’s Hospital’s 10th birthday.

“Queenslanders are so lucky to have this world-leading hospital in our state for our children – a hospital that has been there for every child, every time, no matter where they are from in Queensland,” Ms Rice said.

“It is supporters like The Lott by Golden Casket that help us continue to look further, dream bigger and be the difference that matters for our state’s sickest and most critically injured children.”
