Holiday joy! Penshurst grandfather ushers in New Year with $1 million Weekday Windfall win
A Penshurst grandfather will welcome the New Year as a millionaire after checking his Weekday Windfall ticket on Christmas Eve to discover he had scored more than $1 million in last night’s draw.
The New South Wales resident held one of the two division one winning entries in Weekday Windfall draw 4485, drawn Monday 23 December 2024. He pocketed a total of $1,002,459.70.
Despite the festive surprise, the longtime player remained cool, calm and collected while speaking with us.
“Thank you very much!” he said.
“We really can’t believe it. I’ve been playing for over 30 years, so it’s amazing.
“I got five numbers a long time ago but never all six.
“I’m excited but I’m pretty calm.
“I won’t do anything extravagant, just save it a bit and look after the kids.”
With a large family, the merry man said the prize would go a long way to helping his nearest and dearest.
“I’ve got a big family with lots of grandkids and great grandkids, so I dare say a lot will go to them,” he said
“I actually used all family members' birthdays on my ticket, so it’s a special win.
“My mum would always say that our family never has any luck with competitions and things, but it looks like things have changed! Hopefully, the luck continues.
“What a win for Christmas Eve. Thank you to everyone at The Lott.”
His winning marked System 7 entry was purchased on The Lott website – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
