South Yarra man almost let his million-dollar Weekday Windfall win slip away
A South Yarra man has admitted that he nearly didn’t buy his Weekday Windfall ticket that won him a million dollars, but he felt a sudden urge to do so.
The Melburnian held one of the four division one winning entries nationally in Weekday Windfall draw 4410, drawn Monday 1 July 2024 and takes home a total prize of $1 million.
The victorious Victorian shared that he woke his wife up in a frenzy upon discovering his newfound fortune, to check if the winning news was real.
“We couldn’t believe it,” he relayed.
“I was pretty emotional. There were a million things going through my head.
“I decided to check my ticket online and I didn’t even realise that one of the lines on my ticket had all of the winning numbers!
“My partner was asleep so I woke her up and I said to her, ‘Can you check this? Can you check this! I think we’ve won a million dollars!’
“She had a look and she said, ‘I think we’ve won!’.
“And you wouldn’t believe it – I was so close to not putting a ticket on because I really couldn’t be bothered.
“I went to the newsagency to buy a ticket, but they were too busy, so I walked out.
“But then this thought came over me and I just knew I had to buy a ticket. I’ve been playing the same numbers for four decades and it’s just within my weekly routine.”
When asked how the couple planned to enjoy their newly-minted millionaire status, the gleeful husband revealed it would most likely go towards helping their children.
“The first thing that came to mind was our boys. They’ve both got mortgages and times are really tough right now for the younger folks,” he said.
“We always want to help others and we never think of ourselves. As long as we have food on the table and a roof over our heads, we’re happy.
“We celebrated together as a family over dinner last night.
“It still hasn’t sunk in. It will take a while!”
Their winning entry was purchased at Cards Galore, Level 1, 14B Vogue Shopping Centre, 670 Chapel Street, South Yarra.
Cards Galore owner Vishal Nimje said he was so excited to hear that someone had won a division one winning entry with a ticket purchased at his outlet.
“It feels amazing to know that we were a part of someone’s life-changing moment. It gives us immense pleasure and a sense of prize to my team,” he said.
