Biodiversity – short for ‘biological diversity’ – describes the variety and complexity of all living things on Earth, from tiny microbes in healthy soil to towering eucalyptus trees.

It is essential for the healthy function of our ecosystems and provides us with clean air, water, fertile soil, pollinated crops, climate regulation, food, medicine, and other essentials for life. Sadly, biodiversity is decreasing worldwide. This decline is caused by habitat loss, overuse of resources, climate change, pollution, and invasive species.

Here at The Lottery Corporation, we have a responsibility to drive positive and sustainable change for our communities, environment and products. We recognise the importance of protecting what biodiversity remains and investing in restoring degraded ecosystems to help create healthy, productive landscapes where people and nature can thrive.

This is why we have taken another step in our sustainability journey by partnering with Greening Australia, a not-for-profit with over 40 years of experience in restoring Australian landscapes by connecting community, economy and nature in ways that benefit all.

The Lott’s Head of Community Partnerships and Environmental Initiatives, Hans de Koning says this partnership is just another step towards creating a sustainable future.

“Customers have told us that they want The Lott to contribute to positive environmental efforts. That’s why we’ve developed partnerships with organisations such as WIRES and The University of Queensland’s Seagrass Research Project," he says.

“This partnership with Greening Australia is a further commitment to our customers, retailers and staff that we value and recognise the need to minimise our environmental impact as a business and help support where we can.”

The Lottery Corporation is proud to support Greening Australia’s mission with a donation that will support their national restoration programs and drive meaningful impact for Australian landscapes, biodiversity and climate resilience.

“We are incredibly grateful for The Lottery Corporation’s support that will advance our work to restore Australia’s natural landscapes and enhance our environment for future generations,” says Greening Australia CEO Heather Campbell.
