Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day is near!
This Friday, October 27, is Day for Daniel - Australia’s most extensive child safety education and awareness day.
The day honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe – a 13-year-old boy who was abducted from a Sunshine Coast bus stop and murdered.
Day for Daniel falls on the last Friday of October each year and is a national day of action to raise awareness of the importance of child safety, protection and harm prevention. The walk symbolises the journey that Daniel was unable to complete himself.
This year’s theme is ‘Consent’ and focuses on walking and discussing child safety conversations.
With the countdown on to Day for Daniel, we wanted to share a few tips with you from Bruce and Denise Morcombe, parents of Daniel, on how to talk about ‘consent’ with your children.
- Remind your child that they can say no
- Their body, their choice
- Listening to body clues to understand if it’s a “Yes” or a “No” feeling
- Create a safety network of 5 people with your child that they can feel safe sharing feelings with.
- Watch Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson all about ‘consent’ and download the resources at The Daniel Morcombe Foundation website.
Register for Day for Daniel – You can participate and sign up for free, and you’ll receive an information starter pack with the latest child safety resources.
The Lott is proud to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation again in 2023 for our fifth year in a row, with a donation announcement to be made on the day itself.
