The Lott in the Community: 2022’s winning moments!
2022 showed us that together, with our partners, our retailers, and you, our players, we can make Australia a safer, healthier and better place for our communities.
This year we’ve proudly contributed to more than 15 community partners.
From state-of-the-art medical equipment and vital support programs to expanding child safety and flood recovery efforts, our community partners have so much to be proud of.
And it’s all thanks to you. By playing at The Lott, you’ve helped make these contributions possible.
Take a look back at some of our favourite wins for the community:
Health and Medical Research
This year, we were honoured to support several world-leading medical research and health programs through various charities and not-for-profits.
We returned as a broadcast partner for the Nine Telethon in support of The Children’s Hospital Foundation. The Telethon raised funds to help give sick kids access to the most advanced clinical programs and make every stay in the hospital as comfortable as possible. While there, we also donated $1.1 million from state lottery taxes and donations of Golden Casket unclaimed prize money.
To further the ongoing research into children’s brain cancer survival outcomes, we proudly donated $500,000 from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money to the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre.
Another $500,000 contribution from Golden Casket supported Mater Foundation research projects. These projects aim to better identify babies at risk of stillbirth, brain damage and cerebral palsy from oxygen deprivation during late pregnancy and childbirth.
Two University of Queensland’s research programs also received $500,000 from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money. The first project continues research into the use of molecular clamp technology to supercharge vaccine production. The second project aims to create an effective treatment for chronic disease.
We continued our long-standing support of Starlight Children’s Foundation by making another $250,000 donation from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money for 38 Starlight Wishes. Wishes are a once-in-a-lifetime experience that provides a positive distraction, helps foster empowerment, and offers a break from hospital life's monotony.
Since 2019 we’ve supported My Room Children’s Cancer Charity by donating $100,000 during the AFL Grand Final Footy Show. The funds raised on the telethon help My Room’s goal of working towards a 100% cure rate for children with cancer. Additionally, we continued our partnership with the Childhood Cancer Association with a $50,000 donation to support their work providing practical, hands-on support to children with cancer and their families. Variety SA received $50,000 for the second year so that more Aussie kids could reach their full potential, regardless of their ability or background.
Education
This year, we made a $300,00 donation from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to continue its important work in child safety education - including growing its school-based programs, holding child safety events, and supporting victims of crime and families of missing persons.
We partnered with Starlight on the Healthier Futures initiative with $100,000 funded from Tatts NT unclaimed prize money. This will help Captain Starlight continue visiting rural communities to ensure kids have positive healthcare experiences and get the necessary checks.
We committed to another year of support to the Stars Foundation by contributing $100,000 to continue vital work empowering young Indigenous women in the Northern Territory.
For the second year in a row, the phenomenal Kindness Factory received $50,000, which would help spread the Kindness Curriculum in more communities and schools.
Disaster Relief
Rallying behind communities devastated by the Queensland and New South Wales floods, we donated $500,000 to Australia Unites – Red Cross Appeal, with half the funds coming from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money.
Arts and Events
We continued to play a part in the success of several major events across the country this year.
After 23 years of involvement, we committed to being the naming rights sponsor of the Tatts Finke Desert Race for another two years. The race is an iconic motorsport event with a reputation for being one of the world’s most challenging and gruelling off-road courses in a remote location.
The Lott, through Tatts NT, has been a long-term supporter of Mindil Beach Sunset Markets and was proud to support once again a not-for-profit that gives so much to Darwin’s local community.
Finally, we’re helping to bring the magic to Brisbane City with The Lott by Golden Casket City Hall Lights lighting up Brisbane’s CBD. If you’re in Brisbane, make sure you check it out!
Our partners have an unwavering commitment to making Australia a better place, so supporting them has been a great privilege. And that’s only made possible because you support us. And for that, we say a massive thank you.
