Australians come together to support flood affected communities
Australians have rallied behind the communities devasted by the recent Queensland and New South Wales floods, raising more than $25 million during the one-off Australia Unites – Red Cross Appeal.
The Lott proudly donated $500,000 to the appeal, with half the funds coming from Golden Casket unclaimed prize money.
The Red Cross volunteers took over 17,000 calls from calls centres across Australia, helping to push the telethon’s effort to $25,249,796 in just five hours.
The Australian Red Cross has committed 100% of these funds to people in Queensland and New South Wales who have been impacted by the 2022 floods as cash assistance. No essential operating costs will be deducted from funds raised during the telethon.
