Young women in the Northern Territory continue to see Stars
The Lott has committed to another year of support for the Stars Foundation, with a $100,000 donation to continue important work empowering young Indigenous women in the Northern Territory. The commitment from the Lott now surpasses over $300,000 to the work of the Stars Foundation.
Since 2015, Stars Foundation has been working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls to close the gap on important health and education outcomes.
The Foundation aims to support and enable young women to make active choices towards realising their full potential, which creates better environments for Indigenous communities.
2021 was a significant year for Stars. They are supporting twice as many students as they did last year, and this exponential growth has been managed amidst the backdrop of COVID-19.
The foundation commenced operating 19 additional programs across Western Australia and the Northern Territory, providing holistic wrap-around support in a total of 37 partner schools across Australia, supporting around 2300 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women.
The Stars Foundation is overseen by an Indigenous-led board, with the highest level of Indigenous and business leadership represented. This not only allows Stars participants to gain the confidence of communities and families, but also ensures the program reflects First Nations’ priorities and is responsive to community needs and feedback.
