Hip hip hooray! Homebush man gifts himself $4.8 million Set for Life windfall
A Homebush man has gifted himself the best birthday present imaginable after purchasing a Set for Life ticket that delivered him $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.
The inner west of Sydney resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Set for Life draw 2845, drawn Sunday 21 May 2023.
He takes home the division one prize of $4.8 million, paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.
The winning man is the 116th Set for Life winner since the game was introduced in 2015, and the 9th division one winner so far in 2023.
The New South Welshman received the winning phone call earlier this morning and was completely oblivious to becoming Set for Life.
“Oh, I didn’t expect this!” he laughed.
“Wow! It says congratulations on The Lott app!
“I bought this Set for Life ticket on my birthday last week – what a great gift!
“I was at dinner with my family for my birthday and after dinner I decided to buy a ticket at random.
“This is amazing news for my morning!
“I’m actually at work this morning.
“Thank you so much.”
Despite receiving $20,000 a month for the next 20 years, the cheery man revealed he wouldn’t be quitting his job anytime soon.
“I will continue to work but will be able to enjoy more fun family holidays,” he exclaimed.
“I’m not too sure what else I’ll do at this stage, but it will be very exciting.”
His winning two-game entry was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
