Darwin man clocks off work and discovers time-stopping Set for Life windfall
A Darwin man admits he was too busy at work yesterday to discover he’d become Australia’s newest Set for Life division one winner.
The Northern Territory resident held the only division one winning entry in Set for Life draw 2540, drawn on Wednesday 20 July 2022. He took home the division one prize of $4.8 million, paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.
When we finally spoke to the winner, he confessed he’d been too busy at work yesterday to answer earlier calls trying to confirm his life-changing win.
“That’s fantastic! I missed your calls this morning because I was just finishing my shift,” he cheered.
“At the moment, I’m filled with disbelief! I’m a calm person and I don’t really overreact.
“I know it will sink in more once the money’s in my bank account.
“Funnily enough, my wife had a nice little win in a lottery many years ago.
“I’ve gotta tell you that the timing is brilliant!
“We’ve just finished some things on our house, and I know this prize will come in handy. There’s lots to do around there!
“I think we might go out with family tonight to celebrate.
“My partner is looking at me now in complete disbelief too.
“There’s some significance around numbers. It was game 13 – you know what they say! Unlucky for some.
“This is certainly going to change our lives.”
His winning 50-game Quickpick was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
