With only four weeks left of 2024, the year is coming to an end, but the winners are showing no signs of slowing down. This week, we showered several Aussies with the life-enhancing news of their windfalls, including two new Powerball multi-millionaires, sparking smiles and setting dreams in motion.
From new sail boats to new homes, our major prize winners are wrapping up their year in style. Check out some of our favourite winning moments from the week!
Saturday Lotto win comes with sickly-sweet symptoms
A Gladstone woman discovered a major lottery win can come with unusual side effects after her $1.6 million win in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw left her feeling queasy. When we called to confirm the unbelievable news, the elated mother couldn’t contain her excitement.
“I don’t know how to feel. I sort of feel sick but it’s a good sickness, like I’m sick with excitement and happiness,” she exclaimed.
“My husband checked the ticket yesterday and we’ve been in shock ever since. I think we checked it about 50 times after that.
“This has come at such a great time. It’s going to help us so much.”
Single father Set for Life
After years of playing the same Set for Life numbers, a Main Beach father has scored $20,000 a month for the next 20 years from a recent draw this week. We reached out to the doting dad just moments before he checked his ticket, leaving him in complete awe.
“I was actually just on the way to the newsagency now to check my ticket. I’m very happy. We’ll be able to live nicely,” he shared.
“It’s just me and my son. I’m going to spoil him for sure.
“I’m a single father so it will help more than you could ever imagine.
“I’ve been playing five or six years now. I like to mix it up with my numbers, but this ticket got me a couple of prizes, so I kept replaying it.”
From longshot to jackpot
And imagine thinking you’ve won just $9, only to find out you’ve scored $4.8 million! That’s exactly what happened to a man from Gawler, who will also receive $20,000 every month for the next 20 years after winning the Set for Life division one prize.
“Thank you so much. I never thought I’d win. I think the most I’ve ever won is about $50,” he confessed.
“I can’t believe I’ve been walking around with this ticket with no idea how much it’s worth.
“My partner helped me check my ticket. She initially said, ‘You’ve won $9.’, and then she further added, ‘Hang on, you’ve won a lot more than that!’. I had to have a look for myself.
“It’s started to really hit me now that we’re speaking, and it’s confirmed.”
Weekday Windfall win blows open new doors
An Athelstone man is saying hello to homeownership, after winning the division one prize from a recent Weekday Windfall draw. The doting husband shared he ‘refused to believe it’ until we called him to confirm the $1 million windfall.
“I don’t think I’ve been better!” he laughed.
“It’s so awesome. One million dollars! I refused to believe it until I received a phone call from The Lott. I haven’t even told anyone, but I’m itching to tell my wife.
"I’ve got four kids. We don’t own a home and have been renting for quite some time, so this will finally let us buy a place to call our own.”
