It’s getting close to my favourite time of the year. The days are growing longer, mangos are appearing at the markets, and some of my colleagues have surprisingly taken up surfing. It can only mean one thing — summer is just around the corner! 

Did you know, summer is also the season where the most winners have taken out the Set for Life First Prize, winning an incredible $20,000 every month for twenty years! 

Among our current family of 52 First Prize winners, 19 have scored their life-changing win during the summertime, compared to 10 autumn winners, 14 winter winners, and nine who’ve won during spring. Turns out December, January, and February aren’t just the hottest months on the thermometer, they’re also the hottest months for Aussies becoming Set for Life.

While Set for Life is a game of chance and a win can happen at any point throughout the year, I’m excited to see if the trend continues this year. And with a draw every day of the week, there will be 91 chances to become a Set for Life First Prize winner this summer!

To inspire some dreaming for the sunny season we’ve looked back at some of our winners to see what was on their ultimate summer wishlist.

Aussie odyssey and a seafood feast
A Coomera couple who took out the Set for Life First Prize in February this year planned to live life to the fullest with their win. They told us they wanted to hit the open road and would be setting off on some adventures around the Australian outback. 

But their first point of call was celebrating their win with a special dinner, and of course, nothing says like summer like a good seafood platter. 

“We will celebrate by going out for a seafood feast. We might try out some different seafood restaurants throughout the Gold Coast,” they said. 

Southeast Asia oasis

A Skye woman who became Set for Life in the summer of 2018 told us she was looking forward to finally going on a dream holiday. Her sights were set on mountainous landscapes and emerald rice-fields as she shared she’d be jetting off to visit some of Southeast Asia’s most popular islands. 

“We want to go to the Philippines and Bali, and we’ve never been and just want to see what it is like and now we can!” the thrilled woman said. 

Beating the heat with a trip to the North Pole

When one Bacchus Marsh family won Set for Life back in 2016, they were excited to plan a Christmas they would never forget. The winning woman told us she couldn’t wait to treat her family, trading the summer heat for a winter wonderland.

“I’ll be able to take my family somewhere we’ve always wanted to go - to the North Pole to see the Northern Lights and visit Santa Claus Village!” she said. 

Today is $20K day, which means all of our First Prize winners receive another monthly prize payment of $20,000. So while there’s still a few weeks until the season gets fully underway, we can only imagine how this boost will be setting them up for another great summer.
