Social media helps unite Bargo woman with Set for Life division one win
A Bargo woman has come forward to claim her Set for Life win of $20,000 a month for 20 years, explaining she’d only checked her ticket after seeing a Facebook post about a mystery winner.
The New South Wales winner held the only division one winning entry nationally in Set for Life draw 2215, drawn Sunday 29 August 2021.
Speaking with us this afternoon, the jubilant winner relayed how the excitement unfolded.
“I have to sit down; I am going to collapse! Oh my god!” she laughed.
“I had absolutely no idea. I had seen on the Bargo Community Facebook Page that someone had won division one in Set for Life, but they couldn’t find the winner.
“Everyone was going absolutely wild, and so I thought I’d better head down to the newsagency to check my tickets too. I scanned my ticket and next thing I know they’re telling me I scored division one in Set for Life.
“I don’t really remember what happened next. My mind went blank from the shock. My legs went all jiggly; I had to hold myself up.
“I could cry then, and I could still cry right now.
“I am absolutely stunned! This is life-changing.”
The emotional woman admitted she already knew exactly what she’d do with her Set for Life fortune.
“I have worked in a really stressful job for decades, and I think I am almost done with that,” she explained.
“The first thing I will look at doing is retiring from work. Then I would love to donate to a few charities that really mean something to me.
“When we can travel overseas again, I’d like to a book a first-class flight for a first-class holiday!
“Tonight, we will pop a bottle of champagne, sit in the backyard and start brainstorming all of the things we can do with this prize.”
The winning entry was purchased at Bargo Newsagency, Shop 2-3, 66 Railside Avenue, Bargo.
Bargo Newsagency owner Encan Huang said he was thrilled to have been in the store when the winner checked her ticket.
“It was incredible to have been there when she realised she was the winner,” he said.
“We had been hoping to congratulate our winner in person, and that’s exactly what we did! She was so excited, and we were just as excited too.
“This is not just great news for our winner and our store, but also our small local community.
“We can’t wait for the next big win!”
