More often than not, when we speak with our Instant Scratch-Its winners they tell us that they could not believe their eyes when they saw the winning symbols that scored them the top prize.

Well, what if your eyes did deceive you? What if you actually won more than you thought?

A recent shopper from Renmark enjoyed more than just some fun wordplay after their $10 Jumbo Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket spelled out a $150,000 top prize.

After the winner enjoyed scratching their Crosswords ticket, they counted the number of full words scratched off and thought they had only twelve. It wasn’t until they claimed their prize at our office that they realised they actually had thirteen words and the top prize of $150,000!

But this isn’t uncommon!

Earlier this year, a Goodna mum happily discovered what she thought was a $10,000 Instant Scratch-Its win was actually a $100,000 prize. 

When the outlet she purchased the ticket from told her the prize amount was too high for them to pay in-store, she assumed she had only won a few thousand dollars. It never occurred to the winner she had won a top prize!

“The staff there couldn’t tell me what I had won, just that it was over the amount they could pay in store, so I thought maybe it was $10,000.

“I only found out I won $100,000 when I came in to claim my prize. Hearing that made me so tingly, it felt surreal.

“I am feeling very nervous! I am in shock. I feel as though I am dreaming.”

Last year, a hardworking couple from Bellmere was left absolutely stunned when they discovered what they thought was a $750 winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket, was in fact a $100,000 top prize.

The wife, who originally scratch the ticket, believed she had won $750. It wasn’t until her husband checked the ticket that he thought they had won $10,000.

In the end, neither of them realised the size of their win and it wasn’t until they came into our head office to claim their prize that they realised they had won $100,000. 

“F***k off?,” the man screamed in shock when the true extent of his instant win was revealed.

So while you may look at your Instant Scratch-Its ticket and think you haven’t scratched a winner, we do recommend double-checking before disposing of the ticket.

You can use the ‘self check’ symbols on the tickets themselves or scan them at one of our outlets just to be sure!
