A Monday morning wallet clean-out has yielded a dad from the Springwood region a $10 million Powerball surprise.

The tradie in his 30s was the unsuspecting Queensland division one winner of Powerball draw 1123 on Thursday 23 November 2017.  But as his entry was unregistered, Golden Casket had to wait for the winner to check his ticket and discover the news themselves.

Despite a region-wide search for the Powerball winner during the past 12 days, the man confessed he had no idea the big win had landed in the area, let alone that it was his.

He has won the draw’s entire division one jackpot of $10,658,989.09!

Speaking to a Golden Casket official this morning, the overwhelmed man shed tears of joy as he recounted how he discovered his multi-million dollar win.

“This morning when I woke up I cleaned out my wallet and there were a couple of old lotto tickets in there.  So I used the app to check them,” he explained.

“When I checked this ticket I was stunned!  I wasn’t sure so I checked it again and again.

“Oh, I just couldn’t believe it.  I got the fright of my life.  I’m just so overwhelmed.”

The happy winner confessed he had no idea exactly how he would use his windfall but said it was a life changing moment for him and his family.

“I have no idea what we’ll do!  I’m not sure!  It’s big!” he said.

“I only buy lotto tickets every now and then.  I just thought I’d buy this Powerball ticket because it was a big jackpot.

“I feel like I don’t know if this is true or just a dream!”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning 18-game QuickPick from Chatswood Hills News & Casket Agency, Shop 34, Chatswood Hills Shopping Centre, Magellan Road, Springwood.

Chatswood Hills News & Casket Agency owner Soni Dahiya said he was thrilled the winner had finally been united with their prize.

“We’re so happy the winner has discovered his win.  Congratulations to them and we wish them all the very best!” he said.

“The win has been the talk of the area for more than a week. We’ve had a lot of people coming in to check their tickets and asking if the winner has been found yet.

“This is the fourth time we’ve sold a division one winning entry since 2006 when we started at this outlet, but they were all smaller prizes compared to this big Powerball win!”

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1123 on Thursday 24 November 2017 were 39, 17, 36, 35, 27 and 33, while the all-important Powerball was 7.

Last financial year, 18 Powerball division one winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $273 million.  During this time, the biggest individual division one Powerball prize was won by a syndicate of Queensland Government workers who took home $55 million.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 385 so far this calendar year, including 100 won by Golden Casket customers.
