Latest donation brings total contributions to $1.9M in support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s child safety efforts
Following the disappearance of their 13-year-old son Daniel, Bruce and Denise Morcombe and hundreds of supporters took the 4km walk that their son never got to make in the hopes of raising awareness of Daniel’s case.
Twenty years on, Daniel has been laid to rest, and that same walk kicks off Australia’s biggest child safety awareness day, the Day for Daniel.
This year, The Lott by Golden Casket is proud to announce a $450,000 donation from unclaimed prize money to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to mark their 20th year of the Walk and Day for Daniel.
In our sixth year of support for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, this takes our donations to a huge $1.9 million to support the Foundation in its mission of keeping kids safe!
Through the Foundation's efforts, child safety education programs are expanding, empowering children, parents, and communities to safeguard against potential dangers right across Australia. Their initiatives also support victims of crime and the families of missing persons, offering critical assistance during times of need.
All kids deserve to grow up in an environment that’s safe and free from harm and abuse.
The Foundation is truly at the forefront of building a safer future for all children and through the generosity of donations and support, the Foundation is able to continue to extend their free resource library, school programs, and continue Day for Daniel for many years to come.
Co-founders of the Foundation, Bruce and Denise Morcombe, were grateful to have had the Lott’s unwavering support for the past six years.
"The Lott's incredible generosity has helped us continue to create free educational resources so we can keep our young people safe.”
"For 20 years the Daniel Morcombe Foundation has cut through the barriers and done what others thought complicated and difficult. Here's to another 20 years of unwavering dedication and advocating for children."
The Lott's Partnerships Manager, Liz McPherson, expressed hope that this contribution will enable the Foundation to continue setting new milestones.
“The incredible reach and impact of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is growing nationwide, and we’re proud to support their vital work,” she said.
“Today, walking alongside thousands of children, parents, and teachers highlights Bruce and Denise’s mission to keep Aussie kids safe. As more participation records are broken each year, they’re getting closer to achieving that goal.
"Last year’s Day for Daniel resulted in more than 470 schools receiving disclosures of harm. While difficult to hear, it shows just how important the Foundation’s work is and the real difference that this funding makes in supporting their mission."
