Tasmania’s $30 million Oz Lotto winner found! Burnie man floored by winning revelation
A Burnie man has been left speechless by the revelation he’s now $30 million from this week’s Oz Lotto draw.
The Tasmanian held the only division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1539 on 15 August 2023.
As the winning Oz Lotto entry was not registered to a player card, the identity of the ticketholder had been a mystery. We had been waiting for the winner to check their ticket and make contact.
The prize is believed to be the equal biggest lottery win ever in the Apple Isle. In 2018, a Tasmanian man also scored $30 million in Powerball.
“I only found out when I just checked my ticket now!” the man explained when speaking with us.
“That's good! I can’t believe it!
“I had heard there was a big win in Tasmania. I play Oz Lotto each week but I didn’t for a moment think it was me.
“I know I’ve won $30 million but I’ll keep playing Oz Lotto – I’ve already got my ticket for next week!”
When asked how he might enjoy his multi-million-dollar prize, the stunned winner shared looking after his family was his first priority.
“It gives me money for a new house and to take care of my family. I want to make sure everyone’s comfortable,” he said.
The winning entry was purchased at Upper Burnie Newsagency & Post Office, 201 Mount Street, Burnie.
Upper Burnie Newsagency & Post Office manager Jeremy Turner said he was thrilled to see another big win land in Tasmania.
“Thirty million dollars is a pretty big prize!” he exclaimed.
“We last sold a division one winning entry about two years ago – it was a $2 million prize in TattsLotto. Customers have been saying we’re due to sell another big winning ticket… and now we have.
“When they buy a ticket, everyone always asks for a winning ticket and now some lucky person out there has it!
“Congratulations to our winner! We wish him all the very best with his prize!”
