No kidding!: Port Kembla man’s $2.3 million Oz Lotto win no early April Fools’ Day joke
A Port Kembla man has received a warm hug from his employer today after they checked his Oz Lotto ticket together and realised he’d won $2.3 million in Tuesday night’s draw.
The Illawarra winner held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Oz Lotto draw 1467, drawn Tuesday 29 March 2022, and took home the entire division one prize of $2,370,350.83.
The emotional man confessed he only checked his winning ticket after encouragement from a work colleague.
“A colleague called me and told me to check my ticket. He’d heard there had been a win in the area and said he had a good feeling about it,” he laughed.
“Once my boss and I saw that I had won, he gave me a huge hug.
“I called my sister straight away to tell her, and she said, ‘Yeah, okay mate, good joke, I guess April Fools’ Day has arrived early this year.’.
“It took a little while, but once she believed me, we both burst into tears.
“This means so much to my family. We’re very close, and this will make a big difference for us.
“I’ve been playing lotteries for more than 32 years, and I still can’t fathom the fact that I’ve won!
“This win means we can finally make some home improvements, but who knows. I might just buy a new house.”
The life-changing marked 18-game entry was purchased at X-Tra Port News, 53 Wentworth Street, Port Kembla.
