Young Darwin man scoops $3.3 million prize and plans to get a haircut
A young man from Darwin had the shock of his life late this afternoon when Tatts officials confirmed he was holding an Oz Lotto ticket worth $3,333,349.59.
The man was one of three division one winners nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1209 on Tuesday 18 April 2017, with each taking home a division one prize of $3,333,333.34.
The other division one winners were from New South Wales and the ACT.
The stunned winner admitted to Tatts officials he had no idea he was holding such a valuable ticket.
“I went in store to check my ticket not expecting anything until the staff ushered me to a more private area of the store!” the winner exclaimed.
“I’m honestly pretty lost – it’s hard to comprehend that amount of money!
“I only moved to Darwin a couple of months ago and am currently job hunting – so this couldn’t have been a better start!”
When asked how he planned to spend his new windfall, the winner knew immediately what his first expense would be.
“I’m going to get a haircut!” the winner giggled, explaining it had been awhile.
Besides that, while still coming to terms with the enormous increase to his bank balance, the winner shared he wouldn’t rush into anything.
“I’m going to really need to sit down and think about it!” the winner explained.
“Ideally I’d love to go on a one week retreat and think about it in a constructive way.
“Tonight I’ll be celebrating in the Darwin way however – with a couple of beers!”
Leanyer Newsagency staff member Louise Rieck said the outlet was thrilled to be celebrating selling another division one winning entry.
“It’s exciting news! We’ve been telling everyone who comes in!” she exclaimed.
“Looking at the plaques on the wall, we’ve sold about eight division one entries over the years but we haven’t had a win in a while so it was about time!
“We were thrilled to break the news to our customer and help them celebrate!”
The six winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1209 on Tuesday 18 April 2017 were 42, 13, 33, 44, 39, 29 and 27. The supplementary numbers were 15 and 31.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 320 so far this financial year, including 132 won by Tatts customers.
