Lewisham mum brews beautiful future for family with $20 million Powerball bounty
A young Lewisham mum has joked she could barely afford a coffee as an extra treat but now might buy an entire café after the shock revelation she’s now more than $20 million richer from winning division one in last night’s Powerball draw.
The Sydney woman’s entry was one of the two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1140 on 22 March 2018.
Each entry takes home a massive division one prize of $20,000,000. In addition to winning the coveted division one prize, the woman’s PowerHit entry also won division two 19 times, bolstering her total prize to $20,552,555.15.
When a NSW Lotteries official made contact with the woman to confirm her prize, she answered immediately and confessed she had already discovered the dream-come-true news.
“Oh my god!” the woman laughed.
“I’m in shock! I’m seriously still in shock. I’m just so happy. It’s huge!
“I’m still pinching myself. I logged in to my account. I couldn’t believe if it was true or not so I said I’ll wait and see if I get a phone call.
“When I told my husband, I almost gave him a heart attack. I was calling him from the other room. I ran up to him and said ‘I think I’ve just won Powerball – it says it here!’.
“He said ‘you have, you’ve won it’. Then I started crying. I’ve been in shock ever since and I haven’t had any sleep. I kept logging in and looking at it, thinking ‘Is it real? Is it not real?’."
The mum admitted it had been a difficult time for her family recently as her and her husband worked hard and looked after their young children.
“It’s come at the best time. It’s been struggle after struggle,” she said.
“I can’t believe this happening. I’m still pinching myself.
“I said to my husband two days ago – he called me on his way home and I said ‘Can you buy me a coffee?’. He said ‘I’ve only got $3 in my wallet’, but he went through the car and found all these coins and came home with a coffee for me,” she said.
“I couldn’t afford a daily coffee then, but I might go buy a café now!”
The winner said she was excited about the prospect of buying her first home for her young family.
“I’m definitely going to buy a house – we’re renting at the moment. Our own place finally! This is just a dream come true!”
The woman’s winning PowerHit entry was purchased online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.
A PowerHit entry guarantees the winning Powerball number and, similar to a System entry, gives you more chances to win multiple prize divisions.
The six winning numbers in Powerball draw 1140 on Thursday 22 March 2018 were 10, 17, 35, 40, 22 and 30, while the all-important Powerball number was 7.
Throughout Australia, there two division one winning entries – one each from New South Wales and Western Australia.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 308 so far this financial year, including 96 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
