Sylvania retiree plans round-the-world trip with $1 million Monday Lotto prize
A man from Sylvania is busy planning a world trip after today discovering he won $1 million in last week’s Monday Lotto draw.
Sydney’s latest millionaire held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3830, drawn Monday 31 December 2018 and won the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.
Sharing his story with us this morning, the Sylvania winner revealed he was in a state of shock after discovering he was now a millionaire.
“I checked my ticket on Friday. At first, I thought it must be a hoax. I just didn’t think this kind of thing could actually happen,” he explained.
“When I told my wife, we really didn’t know what to do. We didn’t want to jump up and down and get excited in case it really was a hoax!
“It still hasn’t sunk in. I’m glad it’s been confirmed, but I still don’t know how to feel.
“It’s a nice addition to the bank account.”
When asked how he planned to spend his Lotto windfall, the happy retiree revealed his million-dollar prize would help him tick off a few items on his bucket list.
“We’re retired, so it is definitely going to help with our retirement,” he said.
“I also need a new car. Well I think I need a new car! So I might buy one.
“But I would love to travel all around the world. This will be a good start with that.
“I want to go back to Europe. We would like to go on a cruise to the Mediterranean. The Greek Islands will be our first destination.”
The million-dollar winning Monday & Wednesday Lotto ticket was purchased from Sylvania Heights Newsagency, Shop 6, 264-272 Princes Highway, Sylvania.
Sylvania Heights Newsagency owner Carolyn Krogh said she was thrilled to have made one of her customers a millionaire.
“We are so excited for our winner! I really hope he enjoys his prize,” she exclaimed.
“What an amazing way to bring in the New Year.
“It has been such a great vibe in store! We’ve had so many customers coming in and asking if we are the winning store.
“We haven’t had a big win in a while, so we were certainly due for one.
“Hopefully this means more big wins for the store and our customers.”
