Darwin man brings home more than the bacon with mouthwatering million-dollar Monday & Wednesday Lotto win
A Darwin man on a mission to buy bacon and eggs at his local grocery store received the surprise of a lifetime when he cracked open the news of his million-dollar win in Monday & Wednesday Lotto.
The Northern Territory resident held one of the four division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4306, drawn Monday 24 July 2023 and takes home $1 million.
Although the entry was registered to a Tatts player card, we were unable to make contact with the winning man as his contact details weren’t up to date.
When finally confirming his prize with us this morning, the cheery man revealed he was on a humble breakfast run when he uncovered his feast of a fortune.
“Wow! I can’t believe it,” he laughed.
“I’ve barely slept all weekend — all I could think about was the win. I think I finally passed out from being so tired last night.
“I discovered the win on Saturday morning. I was watching some football and suddenly, I really felt like some bacon, tomatoes, and eggs on toast.
“I went down to the local supermarket and while I was walking through the aisles, I decided to check my lottery tickets.
“The team member checked the first ticket and I won $60. I thought, ‘Oh yeah, $60. Nothing to get excited about.’
“She scanned another ticket and said there was something wrong with the ticket and that she would be back in five minutes. I was so confused.
“I was told to hold on tight to the ticket, but I didn’t know how much I’d won. I asked her to print the winning numbers and to check the ticket for me.
“She went down each row and it wasn’t until we hit line 22 that it had all the winning numbers. I just yelled, ‘You beauty!’ I couldn’t celebrate too loudly because I was surrounded by five people.
“Thinking about it now, I didn’t even take notice of the winning division one sign they had on the wall!”
Unable to sleep due to the excitement of his newfound fortune, the regular player had spent his nights crafting plans for how to use his prize.
“I had to be somewhere the next morning but because I couldn’t sleep, I got up super early and went to window shop some cars while on my way there,” he shared.
“I thought a new car would be nice and I could buy a new one now. But you wouldn’t believe it, it was about 4am and it hit me that it’s too early to be looking at cars at a car yard.
“I’ll eventually upgrade the car at a reasonable hour. In the meantime, I celebrated with some mates and shouted a couple of blokes at the bar.
“Thank you so much!”
His winning 24-game QuickPick was purchased at Coolalinga Newsagency, Shop 3 Coolalinga Shopping Centre, Coolalinga.
Coolalinga Newsagency owner Jason Barling said he and his team were overjoyed to have sold another division one winning entry.
“It’s wonderful news to hear the division one winner has finally discovered his win. I’m sure he’s spent the entire weekend thinking about it,” he said.
“It’s always great when we sell a division one winning entry to a local customer and it’s the talk of the town in the Northern Territory community!
“We decorated our store last week when the division one win was announced, and we’ve been sharing the winning news with our customers ever since.
“We’ve sold seven division one winning entries in the last 17 years, and we can imagine this will be the start of a winning streak for us.
“We hope our winner makes the most of their division one windfall and they can enjoy this life-changing moment for many years to come – may all of your dreams come true!”
