Cleveland woman honours long-held pact to share $2 million Gold Lotto win with sister
A Cleveland woman has confirmed she will honour a long-held pact she made with her sister and will give her half of the $2 million Saturday Gold Lotto division one win she scored on the weekend.
The Redlands woman held one of the 10 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto’s $20 Million Superdraw, draw 4099, drawn Saturday 31 October 2020. Each entry won a division one prize of $2 million.
When we confirmed the win this morning, the happy woman revealed she initially couldn’t fathom the life-changing news.
“I can’t believe it! Really! It’s just amazing!” she exclaimed.
“I didn’t check my ticket until last night. I knew I’d had a win but I didn’t realise it was a division one win.
“I was busy all day and I just thought ‘oh well, I’m sure it’s my usual $14 win’.
“Then my husband checked the ticket last night and came and told me.
“The first thing I said was ‘that can’t be right’.
“I just needed to hear it confirmed as I didn’t believe it even though it was right in front of my eyes.
“It’s an amazing feeling! I’ve been playing every week for many years so I’m so happy I’ve won!”
When asked how she planned to enjoy her windfall, the generous woman said she would honour a long-held pact with her sister to share any division one wins that came their way.
“I’ll be sharing half of it with my sister,” she declared.
“She buys Set for Life tickets, and I buy the Saturday Lotto tickets, and we’ve always said if either of us wins, we’ll go halves.
“So I’ll stick to the agreement and give her half.
“I’m not sure what I’ll do with my half just yet. I have no idea! It’s still sinking in.
“I wanted to confirm it all before getting too excited, so I haven’t told my sister yet.
“I can’t wait to call her and tell her the good news.”
“I’ve got a busy day ahead and a few errands to run, so I don’t think I’ll have time to do any celebrating today!
“I’m off to a Melbourne Cup luncheon tomorrow so I might have a few extra glasses of champagne to celebrate then.”
The regular player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning entry at Nextra Newsagency Cleveland. Shop 42, Stockland Cleveland, 91 Middle Street, Cleveland.
Nextra Newsagency Cleveland manager Jenny Adam said it was a lovely feeling to share in the win with her customers.
“We are all so excited! We’ve put signs up everywhere and have been telling all of our customers we’ve sold a division one winning entry,” she said.
“They are all so excited for us. One lady even said she got goosebumps when we told her.
“It’s so nice to share the good news around. It’s such a lovely feeling.
“We sold a division one winning entry in Set for Life last year, but before that, it had been a few years since we sold one so we are just really happy to have it happen again.
“We’re thrilled it was a local to the area and a regular customer.
“We wish them all the best with their win!”
