Inspiration leads Wardell retiree to million-dollar Lotto win
A Wardell retiree has landed himself a million-dollar Lotto win by using the same set of lottery numbers he saw score division one eight years ago.
The Northern Regions resident held the only division one winning entry in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4151 on Wednesday 26 January 2022 and takes home $1 million.
The winner ticket was unregistered, so officials we had no way of contacting the winner to break the news and had to wait for him to come forward to claim his prize.
“Wow! I can’t believe it! I had absolutely no idea,” the winning man explained when speaking with our team.
“On Wednesday, 23 April 2014, the same set of lottery numbers won division one in Monday & Wednesday Lotto. Ever since I’ve been playing the same numbers every Wednesday!
“I wasn’t having much luck with the numbers I was initially playing and decided to copy them. I guess it worked out!
“I’ve been playing lottery games since 1983, so it feels incredible to have won division one. You always dream of winning division one and never expect it to happen! It’s so surreal.
“As soon as I found out, I rang my mother and sister. I’d love to help pay my sister’s mortgage off. and help the rest of my family with the prize.
“Thank you! Thank you!” His winning entry was purchased at Alstonville Newsagency, Shop 2, 79-83 Main Street, Alstonville.
Alstonville Newsagency owner Ray Smith said ten years had passed since the outlet had last sold a division one winning entry.
“We’ve sold a number of 1st Prizes in Lucky Lotteries, but our last division one winning entry was sold in 2012. We hope the winning streak continues throughout the year!” he said.
“We will be celebrating selling a division one winning entry throughout the store with great gusto!
“Congratulations to our winner and we hope this is the start to something big!”
