Christmas Eve delight: Hunter Region woman becomes overnight millionaire thanks to Wednesday Lotto
Imagine discovering you won $1 million on Christmas Eve! That’s the reality for one Hunter Region resident who just found out she scored division one in last night’s Wednesday Lotto draw.
The New South Wales player held one of the three division one winning entries nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4037, drawn Wednesday 23 December 2020. Each division one winning entry took home a prize worth $1 million.
Speaking to us this morning, the winner was so overwhelmed by the news she could barely say a word.
“I don’t really know how to feel, or what to say. Oh my god!” she laughed.
“I found out first thing this morning. I was quite amazed by it!
“I actually always thought I might win division one, but it’s quite surreal now that it’s happened.
“It is a great win before Christmas! I will certainly be having a great day tomorrow celebrating.
“I don’t know how I am going to sleep tonight, though!
“I am just going to be sitting here thinking about the fact I’ve just become a millionaire. So, Christmas is going to be fantastic this year thanks to my win, but I think I will be very tired!”
When asked how she planned to enjoy her prize, the elated winner said she needed time to let the news sink in.
“Gosh, I think I need to have a good think about what I am going to do with my prize,” she shared.
“I am sure I will do some fun things in the New Year, but it doesn’t feel real yet, so it’s hard to actually think about what to do with one million dollars.”
The winning entry was purchased at Dungog Newsagency, 184 Dowling Street, Dungog.
Dungog Newsagency manager Peter Maytom said it was amazing to see a major win land in the region on the cusp of Christmas.
“We last sold a division one winning entry in 2015, so that was a while ago,” he said.
“It’s so good winning so close to Christmas. What a great New Year she is going to have!
“We are incredibly happy for our winner and wish her all the best with her prize.”
