Strathpine couple splurge on large coffees after $1 million Gold Lotto win
A retired Strathpine couple is looking forward to upgrading their coffee from a cup to a mug this morning after scoring division one in last night’s Monday Gold Lotto draw.
The northern Brisbane residents held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3936, drawn Monday 6 January 2020. It scored the guaranteed division one prize of $1,000,000.
Confirming their prize with our team this morning the couple couldn’t contain their screams of delight upon hearing the news.
“Yahoo! Haha! Thank you!” the husband laughed.
“It’s bloody great! Wahoo!” the wife added.
“We only discovered the news this morning,” the husband explained.
“I had just got home from my morning walk when I checked the ticket and thought I had won but my wife was still out.
“I didn’t know whether to text her and tell her to come home immediately or to wait.
“When she walked in the door the first thing I said was ‘there is something you need to see here’. We couldn’t believe it!
“I’m just so glad it's true and it has been confirmed.
“We’ve been playing the same numbers every week since the game started. We just chose them at random all those years ago.
“We’ve never won anything more than $100! This is our year!
“We had a stressful year last year so this is great timing! By god, this is going to be a good year!”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their million-dollar windfall, the overjoyed couple said they had already started writing their wish list.
“Now that we know it’s true we’ll start writing our wish list,” the husband declared.
“My wife wants to go to Hawaii and with this win, I think we’ll be able to manage that!
“We’ll be travelling at the front of the plane too – bloody oath we will!
“We’ll probably have to buy a shipping container for all the shopping my wife will do while we are there!”
The couple also revealed their humble plans for celebrating the win.
“I said to my wife this morning that when we go out for our daily cappuccino instead of getting it in a cup, I’ll splash out and get it in a mug,” he laughed.
“I might also get a piece of cake too!”
The winning couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their 12-game marked entry at Nextra Strathpine, Shop 36-37, Westfield Strathpine, 295 Gympie Road, Strathpine.
Nextra Strathpine owner Emmett Bailey said he was thrilled his outlet had sold a division one winning entry.
“We are so pleased one of our customers is now a millionaire!” he exclaimed.
“We are especially excited to hear that it has gone to a local to the area and regular customers.
“This is the second division one winning entry we’ve ever sold so we are thrilled.
“All of our customers are as excited as we are and will be so pleased it is a local too.
“It’s been a really busy period for us with the festive season, so this is just a great way to kick off the year. It feels like a breath of fresh air!
“Congratulations to our winners! We wish them all the best with their prize!”
