No more night shifts for hard-working Balwyn nurse after Monday Lotto win
Wouldn’t it be an amazing feeling to start writing your resignation letter after many long years of hard work?
That’s exactly what a Balwyn nurse has declared she will be doing today because she is planning on waving goodbye to 5am wake up calls and long night shifts after scoring division one in Monday’s Lotto draw.
The happy woman held one of three division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3854, drawn on Monday 25 March 2019. Each entry takes home the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.
As well as winning the coveted division one prize, the ecstatic woman’s System 7 QuickPick entry also won division three 6 times and division six 4 times, bolstering her total prize $1,002,766.70.
Sharing her joy with us this morning, the over-the-moon winner revealed she was planning on writing her resignation the moment she got off the phone.
“It’s so exciting!” she exclaimed with glee.
“It has come at the right time in our lives too, which is fantastic. It’s absolutely awesome.
“I think it will be early retirement for us both. But I do think it will be hard to let go.
“I’m a nurse and I am going to miss my patients and banter with the staff. I’m not sure I can go cold turkey.
“We’ve decided we are both going to quit because we are such busy people. We work hard at work, and then come home and work hard to do things around the house.
“I think we’re going to have to take up volunteer work to keep us busy! I’ve always said I’d volunteer in retirement so now I can do that earlier!
“I’ll definitely work with the elderly, or animals, or the environment as those things have always been where my heart is.
“I’m sure I’ll do lots anyway!
“It feels weird to think I’m going to be a millionaire!” she added with laughter
“I don’t think I’ll ever feel like one. We’ve always been really responsible with money and this probably won’t change our lives that much.
“It will just mean I can leave work and spend my time doing other things I enjoy.
“Waking up at 5 am in the morning is wearing really thin. I think that is a huge win that I’ll no longer have to get up at that hour!
“I’m going to start writing my resignation letter today!”
The hard-working woman did confess there would be some relaxation time on the horizon.
“There is going to be a holiday! We’ve already been looking at flights for a trip to the Northern Territory!” she laughed.
The Melbourne local recounted how she came to hold the winning ticket and revealed to us she always had a feeling she would win Monday & Wednesday Lotto.
“This might sound really weird, but I’ve always had a feeling I’d win Monday & Wednesday Lotto so I’ve been playing it for a last couple of years.
“I had no idea what it would feel like, or what my reaction would be and now it’s happened it’s like ‘wow’.
“I can’t say why I had a feeling, I just did, and so I’ve always just played those two nights of the week.
“I was at home when I saw the email notifying me of the win.
“I kept looking at it, and looking it again and thinking to myself ‘what the hell?’.
“I wasn’t sure if it was a scam but I double checked my ticket and I thought to myself ‘holy crap it’s real!’.
“I actually bought this ticket at a different Tatts outlet than I usually go to but I wanted to check last week’s ticket.
“I’d had a bit of a win the week before so I used that to pay for this ticket and there you go!
“A weird serious of events led me to a winning ticket. It’s crazy how these things happen in this life!”
The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her System 7 QuickPick entry at Burkemore News Post & Lotto, 1060 Burke Road, Balwyn.
Burkemore News Post & Lotto owner Elaine Ng said she was absolutely over the moon to hear her outlet had sold a winning entry.
“I still can’t take it in! It’s such happy news!” she exclaimed.
“We’ve been telling all of our customers and they are all really excited too. They keep saying we are a lucky store.
“This is the first division one winning entry since taking over the store in 2014 so we are thrilled.
“A few of our customers have had smaller wins but it’s great to sell a big one.
“Congratulations to our customer! We wish her all the best with her prize!”
