A Mackay man, who always promised to buy his best mate a car if he struck division one, is now revving up to make that dream come true after taking home a $660,000 Saturday Gold Lotto win.

The North Queenslander held one of the eight division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4503, drawn Saturday 14 September 2024. Each entry scored $660,110.33.

Another division one winning entry in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw was also purchased in the Mackay region at Slade Point Mackay, Shop 1/5 Finch Steet, Slade Point.

The winning man admitted he was ready to ‘jump up and down’ and start screaming during the winning phone call but opted for a quieter celebration instead after taking his heart medication.

“You’re joking!” he cheered.

“This isn’t a scam, is it? What! I’m in shock.

“I was about to start jumping up and down and start screaming but I had just taken my heart medication, so I better not.

“I’ve always played Gold Lotto. It’s one of those things I’ve always done – my late grandad and dad did it, and I’ve always done it.

“And I have a life motto – if you’re not in it to win it, then you’re never going to win!”

His wife of over 50 years was right beside him during the winning phone call and chimed in with sheer astonishment, declaring that she was ‘absolutely flabbergasted’ by the whole moment.

“I have a brain freeze now!” she added.

“I’m absolutely flabbergasted by it all.”

With more than $660,000 about to see his bank account blossom this spring, the cheery man shared it was a ‘lovely day for him’ and he’ll be able to spoil his best mate with a gift.

“I’ve always said, if I had won a big prize one day, I’ll buy my mate a car,” he exclaimed.

“He’s sitting right next to me, and now he knows all about it. Let’s see how we go!”

His winning 24-game QuickPick entry was purchased on The Lott website – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
