A Derwent Park man has unintentionally given his wife a fright, making her think something had gone wrong, but she was pleased to later find out it was just their $1 million TattsLotto win.
The Tasmanian duo held one of the five division one winning entries in TattsLotto draw 4473, drawn Saturday 1 June 2024. They look forward to a $1,048,013.90 prize.
The winning entry was unregistered which meant we had no way of contacting the mystery winner and had to wait for them to check their ticket and come forward.
The winning husband received the surprise of a lifetime when he went to check his ticket at the local newsagency and discovered he was a newly minted millionaire.
“I don’t know how to feel – it’s a bit surreal, very surreal,” he laughed.
“I think there’s a bit of delayed shock.
“My wife had seen in the local newspaper that the Derwent Park Newsagency had sold a division one winning entry, but it was unregistered.
“She asked me if I had bought a ticket and if I had checked it.
“I had to find out, so I walked into the newsagency, which I’ve been visiting for multiple decades, and I said to the team member, ‘I suppose the win has been claimed?’.
“He then informed me that it hadn’t been claimed yet and so there was a bit of hope!
“Once we scanned the ticket in-store, it said that there was a major prize and I had to call The Lott. I couldn’t believe it.
“I called my wife straight away and I asked her, ‘When are you going to be home from work? I’ve got some news to tell you, but I can’t tell you until I get home’.
“She thought I had lost my job or something bad had happened! I gave her a mini heart attack.
“I told her the news once she got home and tears started to pour down her face. She was absolutely speechless.
“Thank you so much.”
With more than $1 million coming their way, the cheery man couldn’t wait to book his next holiday and enjoy life to the fullest.
“We would love to travel next year!” he shared.
“This will really help us see some more places. How exciting.”
His winning entry was purchased at Derwent Park Newsagency, 255 Main Road, Derwent Park.
Derwent Park Newsagency owners Glenn Commane and James Warburton said they both nearly fell over when they found out their outlet had sold a division one winning entry worth $1 million.
“What sensational news for our Tasmanian community! We saw the winning news on Sunday morning, and we immediately nearly passed out,” Glenn said.
“Our last division one winning entry was a few years ago now and it’s great to know that luck has come our way.
“We’ll be celebrating this winning news by sharing it with all our regular customers. We know they’ll be ecstatic that someone in our community has won a major prize.
“We’re really pleased to hear our mystery winner has come forward and claimed their prize now. We couldn’t be happier for them and we wish him and his family all the best.”
