Upper Coomera couple initially mistake $1 million Gold Lotto win for $1,000 prize
An Upper Coomera couple thought they’d done well securing a $1,000 prize in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw, until they realised they’d actually pocketed $1 million.
The Gold Coast residents held one of the five division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4485 on Saturday 13 July 2024. Each division one winning entry scored $1,008,162.52.
“I still can’t believe it!” the winning woman exclaimed.
“This morning, I just decided to check the ticket. At first, all I saw were the first four numbers and I went to my partner, ‘We’ve won $1,008’.
“We normally only win $15 so I got him to check the ticket on the computer.
“He looked at the screen and said, ‘It’s not $1,008’ and I said, ‘Yes, it is!’ and then he said, “It’s $1 million!’.
“It was an ‘oh my god’ moment.
“We’re retired and there’s a lot of work we’d love to do on our home – especially after the Christmas Day storms that swept through here. It’s come at a lovely time.
“We’re feeling very blessed.”
Their winning 18-game QuickPick entry was purchased at News Extra Coomera, Shop B1, Coomera Square, 2 City Centre Drive, Upper Coomera.
News Extra Coomera manager Ching Lee said she was thrilled to see another big win land in the region.
“Unbelievable! When I first saw it on the terminal, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“Customers will be as excited as we are!
“During the past 10 years, we’ve sold five division one wins from this store and two top prize-winning Instant Scratch-Its.
“Congratulations to our winner! I hope the win will change your life!”
