Newcastle woman initially mistakes $1 million Saturday Lotto win for $1,000
A Newcastle woman has confessed she initially didn’t look at all the digits and commas properly when checking her Saturday Lotto ticket and mistook her $1 million win for just $1,000.
The Novocastrian held one of the five division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4487 on Saturday 20 July 2024. Each division one winning entry pocketed $1,012,896.39.
“I checked my ticket last night!” the woman exclaimed.
“I first thought it was only $1,000 – I didn’t look at all the commas.
“I had to ring my sister as I just couldn’t read it properly! Wow!
“What’s funny is I don’t normally play Saturday Lotto, but I just decided to in the last couple of weeks.
“I’m just in shock. I can’t believe it. It’s always been a dream to win. This will completely change my life – put it that way!
“I’ve probably only slept two hours! I keep thinking I have to pinch myself!
“My first priority is to pay off the house and go from there – whatever the financial advisor tells me to do. I want a nest egg for the future.”
The woman’s winning marked entry was purchased via The Lott app – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
