Oakbank man initially mistakes $1.4 million Saturday X Lotto win for $1,400 prize
An Oakbank man thought he’d done well scoring a $1,400 prize in the weekend’s Saturday X Lotto draw until he checked his ticket again and realised he’d won more than $1.4 million.
The South Australian held one of the seven division one winning entries in Saturday X Lotto draw 4431 on Saturday 6 January 2024. Each division one winning entry scored $1,428,571.43.
“I can’t believe it!” the man exclaimed when we called to confirm his prize.
“I’m obviously very excited. It’s unbelievable.
“What a morning! I normally check my ticket on Saturday night before bed but didn’t do it last night.
“So it was just after breakfast this morning. Luckily, I was sitting down at the time.
“I initially thought I’d won $1,400 or something. But then I thought, ‘hang on, the commas in the wrong place and there’s too many digits”.
“There may have been a few expletives after that!
“I asked my wife, ‘Are you sitting down?’ before telling her the news.
“It’s amazing. I’ve been playing for years but this is unbelievable.
“We’ll help out our children and maybe even enjoy a holiday!”
The man’s winning 36-game QuickPick was purchased at Woodside Newsagency, 40 Onkaparinga Valley Road, Woodside.
Woodside Newsagency manager Lexi Chassiotis said she was celebrating her outlet selling a division one winning entry.
“This is the first division one winning ticket we’ve sold since we took over the outlet just over four years ago,” she said.
“We've been telling customers lately we feel that we are ready to sell a division one winning ticket and look, first Saturday X Lotto draw of 2024!
“I'm so happy for the customer who bought the ticket. We hope it's life-changing for them!
“This is pretty exciting for us. We can’t imagine how our winning customer is feeling, but thank you for putting us on the map, and congratulations!”
