Coombabah woman celebrates $1.5 million Gold Lotto win with a cup of tea and a new hairdryer
A Coombabah woman has confessed she took the edge off the revelation of her $1.53 million Saturday Gold Lotto win with a midnight cup of tea.
The Gold Coast woman held one of the four division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4239, drawn Saturday 5 March 2022. Each division one winning entry scored $1,533,628.84.
Confirming her win with us, the elated woman recounted how her quiet Saturday night at home was disrupted by the revelation she was now one of Australia’s newest millionaires.
“It was 9pm on Saturday night, and I was lying in bed while my husband watched a movie downstairs, and I thought I should probably check my Lotto ticket, but I didn’t expect anything like this,” she said.
“I checked it once, twice, and then a third time before I bellowed out to my husband. I met him at the bedroom door – he thought I was yelling about a cockroach.
“He said, ‘get outta here!’, and then checked it another five times.
“We celebrated with a cup of tea around midnight and then tried to get some sleep.
“It’s still brain-numbing to even think about!
“It’s an absolute fortune!”
The retiree said the first thing on her shopping list was a new hairdryer after hers broke a couple of weeks ago.
Having been separated from family and friends around the country for a few years, she added she’s excited to get back on a plane and see her loved ones over the coming months.
“I just want to breathe. I’ll put it away until June and really think about what we want to do with it,” she said.
“We won’t be blowing it, that’s for sure. We might do some work to the house, buy a new car, and help out some family members.
“There are a few ideas floating around in our heads, but it’s just great to know we’ve got some money to put away for the future.”
Her winning marked 12-game entry was purchased at IGA Coombabah, Shop 23, 21 Hansford Road, Coombabah.
IGA Coombabah owner Yadvinder Sing said he was ecstatic the store had have sold a division one winning entry to a local, having never sold one before.
“Customers have been incredibly excited that a local amongst us has taken out the division one prize, and we’re so excited to have sold it!” he said.
“This is a huge milestone for us as a store and for the lucky winner – we’d like to extend our congratulations. It couldn’t have gone to a nicer person.”
