“I get chills!”: Hervey Bay grandmother’s Christmas getaway delivers cool $1.5 million TattsLotto win
A Hervey Bay grandmother visiting family in Melbourne for Christmas has explained she “gets chills” every time someone reminds her she’s now a millionaire from scoring division one in the weekends TattsLotto Megadraw.
The thrilled winner held one of the 19 division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 4117, drawn Saturday 2 January 2020. Each entry takes home a division one prize worth $1,578,947.37.
Speaking with us this morning, the elated winner admitted she was still reeling from her million-dollar discovery.
“I had been visiting my family for Christmas and thought I would try my luck and buy a ticket into the Megadraw,” she explained.
“On Sunday morning I got my daughter to check my ticket and that’s when I found out. “At first I thought she was joking. I just couldn’t believe it!
“It was an amazing surprise.
“I was in complete disbelief. Once it started to sink in, I had to go outside to get some fresh air.
“I am at a loss for words. I just keep thinking ‘I’m a millionaire, a millionaire!’. It’s crazy.
“I keep getting bursts of excitement. This changes everything for me. Every time my family reminds me I am a millionaire, I get chills, literal chills.
“I’ve kept this ticket in the safe ever since I found out. I am just too scared to lose it!”
When asked how she planned to enjoy life as a millionaire, the overjoyed grandmother admitted she’d be heading straight to a financial planner.
“I am definitely going to help my family and pay off the mortgage,” she admitted.
“But I am not sure what I will do with the rest. I will go and see a financial advisor and get some proper advice.
“I’ve never had this much money before!”
The regular player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning entry at Hastings Gold Mine, 42-44 High Street, Hastings.
Hastings Gold Mine owner Addo Armani said he couldn’t think of a better way to start the New Year than with a division one win.
“I’m ecstatic for our winner – especially after such a rough year we’ve all had," he shared.
“Another division one win just reminds us that what we do every day is about making hopes and dreams come true. We can’t wait to do it again.
“Our customers will be quite happy to see someone winning division one at their local outlet even if it’s not themselves, as this gives them more hope that they might one day snatch the prize as well!
“Since the outlet was established 40 years ago, we’ve had 27 first division winners. It is quite an achievement considering the town of Hastings is very small.
“I hope this prize can truly change their lives for the better.”
