Murarrie man’s itchy palm leads to $1.7 million Saturday Gold Lotto win
A Murarrie man is heading into retirement with some extra security after winning more than $1.7 million in Saturday Gold Lotto.
The Brisbane man held one of three division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4249 on Saturday 9 April 2022. Each division one winning entry scored $1,799,503.17.
Speaking with us, the Queenslander admitted it was a moment that felt like magic that led to him purchasing his ticket in the draw.
“I was sitting on the couch on Saturday afternoon and suddenly had a very itchy palm,” he laughed.
“Thinking back, I remembered someone once told me an itchy palm was a sign of good luck, so I thought, ‘Maybe tonight is my night’. So I bought myself a ticket.
“But I didn’t figure out I’d won big until I went into the newsagent, and they told me I needed to speak with The Lott head office!
“You really couldn’t script it any better if you tried. I’m retiring in a few months and I was thinking about how I’d go financially moving forward.
“Any plans I had have gone out the window. I guess I’ll just have to make new ones now!
“It’s going to be really nice to be able to help my children too. Everyone will get the same. I can’t be seen to be playing favourites after all.”
The life-enhancing marked 18-game entry was purchased at Murarrie News & Convenience, Shop 2, 2 Queensport Road, Murarrie.
Murarrie News & Convenience owner Minh Tran said this was the first division one win her outlet had sold.
“I was in disbelief when I saw we’d sold a division one winning entry. I was so happy and excited for one of my lovely customers,” she said.
“To my lucky winner, I’m really happy for you and for your loved ones. I hope you take this opportunity to bless yourself with the best life you can have!
“Anything is possible if you believe! Cheers to the first and hopefully not the last division one winning entry from my store!”
