Cairns man vows to never work again thanks to $1.2 million Gold Lotto windfall
A Cairns man has declared he won’t be returning to work tomorrow or ever again after scoring more than $1.2 million in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.
The Far North Queensland player held one of the four division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Lotto draw 4047 on Saturday 2 May 2020. Each entry won a division one prize of $1,217,458.56.
Speaking with us this morning, Cairns’ latest division one winner recounted how he discovered his good fortune.
“I just about fell over!” he cried.
“I had a look at the numbers in the paper, and I checked my ticket about 20,000 times.
“Oh man, this is freaky. It’s all sort of way out there.
“I haven’t let the ticket out of my sight since. It’s nailed to my a***!”
The Far North Queensland resident had no hesitation about how he might use his new millionaire status.
“I’ve just retired as of now!” he declared.
“I’ve got a lot of family too who will do well out of this.
“I’ve been playing for years and years, and you always hope you’ll win, but I still can’t wrap my head around it.
“I’m now a millionaire. It just doesn’t ring right yet. It sounds so weird!”
The winner purchased his winning entry at newsXpress Cairns Central, Level 1, 21 McLeod Street, Cairns.
newsXpress Cairns Central is no stranger to big wins. Last December, it sold a Saturday Gold Lotto entry that scored more than $2.7 million, while in May 2017 it sold an Oz Lotto entry that won $40 million.
newsXpress Cairns Central owner Keith Hamilton said his outlet’s growing list of division one winners made it one of the luckiest in Far North Queensland.
“This is our third division one win in less than three years,” he said.
“Our customers will be so happy that we’ve sold another winner, but maybe a little disappointed it wasn’t them.
“We wish our winner all the very best. We’re sure this win will change his life!”
