Happy “mistake” delivers $1.2 million TattsLotto win to Hobart man
A Hobart man is thanking a happy mistake for his TattsLotto division one win on the weekend worth more than $1.2 million.
The Tasmanian player held one of the four division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Lotto draw 4047 on Saturday 2 May 2020. Each entry won a division one prize of $1,217,458.56.
Speaking to us this morning, the ecstatic man explained he didn’t intend to grab an entry into the weekend’s draw.
“I’m a regular player, but I actually wanted to play the Superdraw this weekend but accidentally bought an entry into last weekend’s TattsLotto draw by mistake.
“So it’s a mistake that led me to have this winning entry, but I’m very happy with that mistake!
“Yesterday, I checked my ticket on my phone. I didn’t know what to think. I thought it was a joke at first. Even now, I’m not so sure. I’m a bit overwhelmed.”
While still at work today, the new millionaire admitted he was finding it hard to concentrate.
“It’s a bit tricky to focus at the moment. But I guess there are worse reasons to be distracted at work at the moment,” he said.
“I can’t wait to clear the mortgage, then after that, we’ll see. When we’re allowed to go out, we’ll go out and celebrate too.”
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry at Sandy Bay Lotteries, 230 Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay.
Sandy Bay Lotteries manager Belinda Barrett said her team were excited to see a division one win land in their outlet.
“I’ve been working here for 14 years and this is the first division one win I’ve seen. It’s been a long time coming!” she said.
“All our customers have been popping in and they’re very excited. Even when they know it’s not them, they’re excited for our winner.
“We wish our winner all the very best. We can’t wait to sell another division one winning ticket and do it all again.”
