$3.3 million windfall delivers an unforgettable and sleepless New Year’s Eve to Forest Lake man
A Forest Lake man has confessed he didn’t get a wink of sleep on New Year’s Eve after he checked his Saturday Gold Lotto ticket before bed and realised he was now a multi-millionaire.
“Normally I don’t really check my ticket straight away, but on Saturday night I thought I’d have a quick look,” he explained to us.
“Then I started scrolling, and I could see all six numbers lit up.
“I told my wife, and we checked the ticket together. I’ve checked it a few times since I can tell you.
“We didn’t get much sleep that night. We just couldn’t believe it. It’s pretty surreal.
“What a New Year’s Eve present!
“My wife actually picked those numbers. She just went through and picked some, and we’ve used them ever since.
“Lucky I didn’t forget to put them on this week! Some weeks I do forget.”
The Brisbane resident shared he already had some plans for his prize.
“This is definitely life-changing for us and has given us a few things to think about,” he said.
“We’ll pay off the mortgage, and we also want to help out our kids – even though they don’t believe us at the moment. We want to give them a foot up in life.”
The man’s marked 37-game entry was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.

A Loganholme woman’s long-held dream to explore a new career is about to become a reality after she scored $3.3 million on New Year’s Eve.
“I got up on Sunday morning a bit late, went for a walk and thought, ‘I better check my tickets’,” she explained.
“At first, I checked another ticket, and I won $35 on that. I was pretty happy with that. Then I checked this ticket!
“It was a nice surprise! A good way to start the New Year.
“The ticket is now on the fridge where I can see it.
“It’s lovely. It’s really lovely! I still do not believe it.”
While still digesting the news she’s now a multi-millionaire, the Queenslander shared she had some initial thoughts about how she would best enjoy her Lotto loot.
“This is going to pay the house off, and I want to change careers this year,” she said.
“It’s definitely come at the right time. It’s going to be a great 2023!”
